MacBook Air 2022 can be equipped with M2 chip

Although absent from the "Peek performance" event, the MacBook Air 2022 may be released later this year but will use the same M1 chip as its predecessor.

On Twitter, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities said that the new generation of MacBook Air is expected to be mass-produced from the end of the second or third quarter to launch later this year. The device will have a new design and many color options.

Earlier, leaker Jon Prosser shared a series of renders of the MacBook Air 2022 with a flat edge similar to the MacBook Pro but the keyboard is white, above the screen is a missing strip for the webcam.

Currently, MacBook Air 2020 with M1 chip has 3 color options including silver, gray and gold. If launched later this year, 9to5mac predicts the device will add many new colors such as white (starlight), black, blue or purple like the iPad Air 2022.

Next, Kuo predicts that the MacBook Air 2022 will not be equipped with a Mini LED screen, a technology that uses thousands of micro LEDs to increase contrast and deep blacks like OLED. Currently, only the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2021 and MacBook Pro 2021 have a Mini LED screen.

In addition, the next generation of MacBook Air is still equipped with an M1 processor chip instead of M2 as some rumors. Earlier, reporter Mark Gurman from Bloomberg said that Apple was testing a processor chip with 8 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores.

Rumor has it that the M2 chip will appear in the "Peek performance" event held on March 8, but that did not happen. Instead, Apple introduced the M1 Ultra, which combines two M1 Max chips with 20 CPU cores and 64 GPU cores, equipped on the Mac Studio model aimed at professional users.

According to 9to5mac, it is likely that the processor chip with multiple GPU cores will be a variant of the M1, while the M2 chip with a more worthwhile upgrade series will not appear in 2022. Previously, Apple did the same thing when it came out. Launched A12Z Bionic chip, variant of A12X Bionic with GPU multiplier increased from 7 to 8 for iPad Pro 2020.

After the March 8 event, Bloomberg predicted that Apple plans to launch many new products in the fall. Devices include 4 new iPhone models (iPhone 14, 14 Max, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max), low-cost MacBook Pro, larger screen iMac, Mac Pro 2022, MacBook Air with new design, 2nd generation AirPods , 3 Apple Watch models (Series 8, SE, Rugged), cheap iPad and iPad Pro 2022.

That's the most devices Apple introduced in a single year in history. According to AppleInsider, Apple may hold many different events to launch each product line.
